Objectives: The patients that attend at the orthodontic clinic in the Universidad Latina de Mexico have their own racial characteristics that do not agree with those that were taken into consideration by Ricketts in his cephalometric study, it is necessary to establish measures according to them. OBJECTIVE: to present follow up results using the averages previously established according to racial characteristics from the inhabitants of the region where the Orthodontic Clinic is located, taking in consideration that 67% of the parents and 56% of grandparents are from the same region, showing similar characteristics.
Methods: METHOD: 52 Lateral X rays of active patients diagnosed as Class I by the students in the Orthodontics Clinic of the Latin American University of Mexico were analyzed. 32 Ricketts meassurent were traced again using Nemochep 2D computational program. The inclusion criteria were based on initial study of Ricketts using the dental pattern, and discarding the radiographs which measurements did not comply with the class I molar relationship and with a normal overjet and overbite. 21 were choosen and analyzed according to the means obtained in the previous study by the authors. T-test was used to compare both means.
Results: RESULTS: Only 40% (n:21) Dental Class I cases met inclusion criteria; 23% (n:7) of the measurements were statistically significant: mandibular incisor extrusion, upper molar position to PTV, labial comissure to occlusal plane, facial cone, cranial deflexion, anterior cranial base, and posterior facial height.
Conclusions: CONCLUSION: The results confirm what was established in the first part: it is necessary that each racial group will have their own cephalometric values, authenticating their own carachterists from each region in order to have a correct diagnosis and good results during and after treatment allowing more stability and good function in patiens. Further investigations are suggested with factors with statistical significance
