Professor of MIcrobiology

David Drake is Professor of Microbiology at the Iowa Institute for Oral Health Research, College of Dentistry, at the University of Iowa a rank achieved in 2003.  His educational background includes a BS in Entomology from Purdue University in 1977; a MS in Invertebrate Immunology & Microbiology from Purdue University in 1982 and a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Tennessee in 1986. David has served on a number of IADR/AADR committees over the years.  He was a member of the AADR Fellowships committee from 1991-1994; the AADR Hatton Awards committee in 1997-1999 and in the final year he served as Chair. In 1995, he was elected and served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Microbiology/Immunology Group of the IADR, a position he held until 2002. Other professional activities include service on multiple study sections and special emphasis panels for NIH.  He was a member of the Special Grants Study Section, NIDCR, for five years and in June 2015. He completed a 4-year appointment as a member of the Oral Dental and Craniofacial Sciences (ODCS) Study Section. David has served on numerous editorial boards of journals and has reviewed many manuscripts over the years. Additionally, he served as a consultant to the Scientific Affairs Council of the ADA. At the university level, he has served on multiple committees during his tenure including Faculty Senate President and because of this position, became very involved with the central administration of the university.
