Dr. Kathryn Atchison is a Professor in the UCLA School of Dentistry Division of Public Health and Community Dentistry and Fielding School of Public Health. Dr. Atchison has extensive experience in research, teaching, and research and intellectual property administration. She is a past President of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry, Director of the IADR Section of Behavioral, Epidemiologic, and Health Services Research, and was inducted into the American College of Dentists and as a Fellow in the American Association for Dental Research. She received the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award for Research in Behavioral, Epidemiologic, and Health Services Research. She has authored over 100 scientific articles in health services research, quality of life, and health literacy.
She recently led a team of public health experts to create a report, commissioned by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s Roundtable on Health Literacy, to outline recommendations for improving the integration of oral health and primary care. The paper on, “Integrating Oral Health, Primary Care, and Health Literacy: Considerations for Health Professional Practice, Education and Policy,” appears online on the National Academies’ website.
